Workshop on Rain Water harvesting

Nirvana foundation conducted successfully workshop on Rain water Harvesting on 12th & 13th April 2003 at TTTI extension centre, SJP, campus, Sheshadri Road, Bangalore-1.

About 35 participants were attending the workshop, among the participants are Architect, Developers, Engineers, students and other professionals.

Dr. Sudha Ravindranth of ISRO (Remote Sensing) Bangalore, shared the very statistical information to explore water resources effectively. By using geographical information system (GIS) through remote sensing satellite data one can plan the water resource which will be required by town planners, water supply boards, and developers.

Mr. C. S Ramasesha, Regional Director Central ground Board, Ministry of Water Resources, in his valuable presentation, rather useful, convened areas of water resources and various ways of recharging the ground water. Technical details discussed were water shed development techniques, recharging of abandoned open wells and bore wells. A video presentation was given on one such RWH project done at Raj Bhavan ,Bhuwenswar, Orrisa state.

Mr. V.R.S. Reddy, works manager (utility); Karnataka soaps & Detergents Ltd. Bangalore, in his speech explained the practical implementation of Rain water Harvesting in their plant and savings they made from the day there after. He also touched on the areas of wastewater recycling and water conservation as well. He also had thrown light on how employees of one organization can be made socially responsible for water and environmental conservation. KSDL has involved and motivated its employees to this cause. One should learn how from this once an ailing public sector was completely reviewed and enabled to progress along with other corporate sectors. In the work shop an action plan to implement the RWH projects. Was drawn along with the participants. The final out come of this action plan is as below.

Besides above projects, few students come forward to develop software to design the rainwater harvesting system for domestic and industrial applications. This software will be distributed to all the participants and public in the due course.

Nirvana foundation promised to follow up this action plan. A periodic meeting of the participated members in near future is mooted to share the experiences and discuss the progress.
